About Us

For over 10 years, we have supported people in navigating the cancer experience and accessing the care and support they need, while building the evidence base to strengthen cancer navigation.

Our History

PeerNav began in 2014. It was originally called True North Peer Navigation and created for patients and caregivers affected by prostate cancer. In 2022, the program was redesigned and renamed PeerNav to support people affected by other cancer types. This includes adolescents and young adults with cancers such as breast cancer, testicular cancer, lymphoma, and sarcoma, as well as patients and caregivers affected by head and neck cancer. In 2024, PeerNav was recognized as a Leading Practice by the Health Standards Organization of Canada. In 2026, PeerNav was introduced into the standard of care for people being treated for prostate cancer at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Our Impact

PeerNav has improved access to care and support for patients with cancer. A clinical trial of PeerNav at cancer centres in Toronto, Vancouver and Halifax showed that PeerNav helped patients with prostate cancer better manage their health, improved their quality of life, and reduced distress and supportive care needs. It was also found to be cost-effective.
